David Love Race Report

The new normal.

The new normal.

The 'delayed' 2020 CSRG David Love Vintage Races finally got underway this weekend under warm sunny skies at Sonoma Raceway. With a Friday afternoon test day the drivers had the opportunity to shake off the cobwebs and dial their cars back in. And with a Saturday morning Qualifier followed by three more Flag races (Sunday morning's Warm-up was turned into another Flag Race), there was plenty of good track time available for all. Paddock procedures called for COVID protocols with no spectators, drivers/crew/workers all in masks, and shop-supported drivers pitting at the upper shops to provide the required spread-out pit parking strategy. PA announcements were relayed over a FM radio frequency so all drivers could keep track of Calls-to-Grid.

While all the CSRG Groups were a bit under prescribed, Group 4 USRRC car participation saw only six <2.0L and no >2.0L cars this weekend. However our contestants put on a great show and there was good racing throughout the grid. David Hagan's 2.0L Porsche 910 was the class of the field taking wins in both of Sunday's races, with Troy Tinsley's Bobsy SR3 winning the Saturday race. Geir Ramleth in his Lotus 23b and Troy Tinsley had great race-long podium battles during both of Sunday's races with Geir getting the better of the duel for two well earned second place finishes. Kudos to excellent racing by Jonathan Rosenthal, Nevin Speiker, Michael Zubko as well.

We look forward to seeing all the USRRC drivers again at the Oct 2-4, 2020 CSRG Charity Challenge at Sonoma Raceway. Please visit us here for more information
